On January 17, 2017, Duc Tran was admitted as a lifetime Member of the Bar and Officer of the Court of The United States Supreme Court, under the sponsorship and motion of California Attorney Quang N. Nguyen, Esq., of Continental Law Group, Garden Grove, California, and retired New York Attorney Martin J. Dockery, Esq., of Rye, New York, a highly respected Vietnam War Combat Advisor Veteran and Author of "Lost in Translation: Vietnam: A Combat Advisor's Story," also a former Partner at Nixon, Mudge, Rose, Guthrie, Alexander & Mitchell, a once prominent New York City law firm and legal launching pad of former President Richard Nixon, of which President Richard Nixon and former United States Attorney General John Mitchell were Senior Partners.
Duc Tran earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, College of Law. Before entering law school, he graduated top 3% (With High Distinction) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, College of Business Administration, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, with a double major in Finance and Economics.
In 2002, Duc Tran studied at the world-renowned University of Cambridge, England, completing courses in Comparative Legal Professions, Comparative Criminal Procedure, and US Anti-Trust Laws from an International Perspective. While studying abroad, he broadened his international perspectives in the practice of law by observing proceedings at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, Cambridge Magistrates' Court in Cambridge, England, and Palais De Justice in Paris, France. He has also visited the prestigious Lomonosov Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia, and Guilin University of Technology in Guangxi Province, China.
During his years in undergraduate college and law school, Duc Tran was an active member of the Vietnamese refugees and immigrant communities in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. He taught English, U.S. civics and history to help Vietnamese refugees and immigrants prepare for naturalization exams at the Asian Community and Cultural Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. He also served as a radio announcer of the Vietnamese language weekly radio program on KZUM community radio station. Over the years, he has volunteered to help a great number of Vietnamese seniors, refugees and immigrants in the Omaha and Lincoln areas in accessing private and public services.
A native of Saigon, South Vietnam, Duc Tran immigrated to the United States in 1993 at the age of 21, as a derivative political refugee under the HO Program (Humanitarian Resettlement Program for Former Re-Education Camp Detainees). Since then he has settled in and adopted Omaha, Nebraska as his hometown. Before immigrating to the United States, he graduated from Saigon’s (now Ho Chi Minh City) elite English Language Concentration Class at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (formerly Gia Long High School). Every year in high school, he was selected to compete in the Best Students of English writing competitions and won numerous awards, including a Third-place Award at the National level and First-place Awards (two times) at the City level.
